University of Queensland winger Joe Jenkins will make his international rugby debut for the Welsh Rugby Sevens team at this weekend’s London leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Jenkins represented the club on 57 occasions between 2014 and 2016, earning seven Premier Grade caps along the way.

The 21-year-old departed St Lucia in February this year for an extended trial with the Welsh Sevens program and Ospreys club, based out of Swansea.

Jenkins developed quickly at UQ, starting his career in Colts 1 before climbing the ladder to record a Premier Grade debut in 2016.

Sessions at the UQ Rugby Academy and an overseas stint with the University of Massachusetts helped transform Jenkins from a capable finisher into a well-rounded utility back.

The harsh spotlight of Rugby Sevens showcased the very best of what Jenkins could provide, assisting UQ to a Cup Runner Up at the Noosa Sevens shortly before Wales came calling.
